This post was submitted for The Friday Challenge named "I Still Want My Flying Car":

I didn't intend my entry to be a magazine ad or TV commercial, but rather 'direct marketing' copy that might appear on a multi-fold direct mailing (junk mail) or brochure, or on a web site landing page from a banner or search ad.

I structured it in sections to (1) introduce the theme and product, (2) appeal to emotion by identifying with reader, (3) position the product as satisfying reader desires, (4) offer 'sensible' features to enable reader to rationalize a purchase, (5) call to action with final impression of the brand.

That was the plan anyway, but it doesn't mean it was well conceived or well executed. My interest in playing off of "Buick Roadmaster" out-weighed my attraction to a defunct brand. Maybe I should have went with my other option: "Olds Rocket-88 - OLDS IS NEW AGAIN!" It even originally appealed to flight! (See emblems here and here.)

Anyway, my lesson from this Challenge is that ad copy may not be considered 'art' but being purposeful and goal-oriented makes it in some ways harder to write.
